The touchless car wash has become popular because it promises to clean without touching the bodywork. That's true: no brush touches your paint. But that's not the whole story. Here's an honest comparison with hand washing.
How a touchless wash works
High-pressure jets and strong chemicals blast dirt off without mechanical contact. To compensate for the absence of friction, the detergents are far more aggressive than those used in hand washing.
The problem: harsh chemistry
The highly alkaline or acidic products used in touchless washes gradually degrade wax, sealants and even ceramic coatings. With repeated visits, the protective layer thins and paint becomes more vulnerable to salt and contaminants.
