Liquid PPF Opti-Shield is a hand-applied protective product, thicker than a traditional ceramic coating, designed to absorb daily wear on a vehicle's most exposed areas: the hood, bumpers, mirrors, door pillars and door sills.
It acts as a sacrificial layer: it takes the hit from micro-impacts, fine gravel splatter and wash marks instead of the original paint. Unlike a rigid film, it doesn't replace physical protection against major impacts, but it offers a repairable solution with no visible seams.
What liquid PPF actually is
"Liquid PPF" refers to a coating applied by brush or applicator that cures into a protective layer thicker than a standard ceramic coating. It isn't a cut vinyl film applied on top of the paint, but a liquid product that follows every curve of the body with no seams or edges.
That lack of seams makes it possible to treat complex areas like mirrors or door handles evenly, something that's harder to achieve with a rigid film cut to fit.
2 coats or 4 coats: what's the difference?
The standard application uses 2 coats, a common choice for general body protection or moderately exposed zones. The reinforced 4-coat application is reserved for the areas that see the most wear, such as the lower front bumper or the leading edge of the hood, where gravel kicked up on the A-30 hits most often.
The number of coats directly affects the product's thickness and, as a result, its ability to absorb micro-impacts before they reach the original paint.

Repairable by zone, unlike a full film
One advantage of liquid PPF is its local repairability. If a treated zone gets damaged or loses effectiveness, the product can be removed and reapplied to that specific section without redoing the whole panel or vehicle.
This sets it apart from a rigid film, where localized damage often requires replacing the entire section.
Liquid PPF vs. rigid film: don't confuse the two
Liquid PPF doesn't replace a rigid protective film against major impacts, such as high-speed stone chips. Its resistance to micro-scratches and light impacts is real, but a physical film remains superior for maximum protection on very high-risk zones, like the lower hood of a car that logs a lot of highway kilometres.
For many vehicles, liquid PPF on the high-risk zones combined with a ceramic coating on the rest of the body offers a practical balance between protection, upkeep and budget.
Pairing it with ceramic coating
Liquid PPF and ceramic coating aren't mutually exclusive: many clients choose liquid PPF on the most exposed zones and a 3- or 5-year ceramic coating on the rest of the body. This combination spreads protection according to the actual risk level of each section of the vehicle.
