Auto detailing refers to a complete, hand-done cleaning and restoration of a vehicle using professional products matched to each material. It's more than a quick wash: every surface, every corner, and every material is treated individually rather than run through the same process.
At Chic Lave-Auto, auto detailing is our most complete package: it combines the interior cleaning and exterior wash into a single visit, with the option to add paint correction or a protective coating depending on the vehicle's condition and goals.
Detailing versus a quick wash
A quick wash aims to make a car look clean in a short amount of time: rinse, soap, a light vacuum. Auto detailing goes further, treating each material according to its actual needs — leather isn't cleaned like fabric, and wheels aren't treated like body paint.
It's also a matter of method: hand washing with the two-bucket technique, blotting rather than rubbing when drying to avoid micro-scratches, and inspection under dedicated lighting to catch defects a quick wash would miss.
What's included in the full package
The interior and exterior package combines every step of our two individual services in a single visit: full vacuum, fabric shampooing, leather conditioning, and disinfection of high-touch surfaces on the interior side; hand washing, wheel cleaning, and tar and bug removal on the exterior side.
The result is a consistent vehicle, clean and cared for from the cabin to the body, rather than a tidy interior paired with a neglected exterior, or the reverse.
- Full vacuum, fabric shampooing, and leather conditioning
- Disinfection of high-touch surfaces
- Two-bucket hand wash of the exterior
- Wheel and wheel well cleaning
- Tar and bug residue removal
- Paint inspection under dedicated lighting
Prep work: an essential step before any protection
A ceramic coating or liquid PPF seals in the paint's current condition, defects included. Before applying either, the surface must be thoroughly decontaminated and, if needed, corrected through polishing.
A full auto detailing session often serves as the first step before a protective treatment: it allows for an honest assessment of the vehicle's actual condition and determines whether paint correction is needed before sealing anything in.
Who this service is for
This package is especially suited to vehicles that haven't had a full service in a long time, family vehicles used heavily, and vehicles being prepared for sale or recently purchased used.
It's also a good fit for owners who simply want a deeper one-time clean than a regular wash, without necessarily aiming for long-term protection.
Detailing, correction, and protection: what's the difference
Auto detailing cleans and restores existing surfaces without altering the paint itself. Paint correction removes a thin layer of clear coat through polishing to eliminate micro-scratches and restore colour depth.
Protection, whether a ceramic coating or liquid PPF, is applied after these steps to preserve the result over time. The three services complement each other: none replaces the others, they follow a sequence based on the vehicle's needs.
How to choose the right service
If the vehicle is simply dirty, an interior or exterior wash alone may be enough. If it hasn't had a full service in a long time, or if you're preparing it for sale, a full auto detailing package is usually the most logical starting point.
If the paint shows haze or micro-scratches visible in sunlight, paint correction should be considered before any protection. When in doubt, an in-studio assessment allows us to recommend the right combination with no surprises on the final quote.

Frequently asked questions
- What's the difference between auto detailing and a regular wash?
- A quick wash cleans the surface in a short time, while auto detailing treats each material individually, by hand, with the appropriate products for each.
- Does the full package include both interior and exterior?
- Yes, the auto detailing package combines the interior cleaning and exterior wash into a single visit.
- Should I get a full detail before a ceramic coating?
- Yes, strongly recommended for the exterior, with decontamination and correction if needed, since ceramic seals in the paint's current condition.
- What's the difference between detailing, correction, and protection?
- Detailing cleans and restores existing surfaces. Paint correction removes micro-scratches through polishing. Protection, like ceramic or liquid PPF, preserves the result over time. All three work together.
- Is this service suitable before selling a vehicle?
- Yes, it's one of the most common use cases, alongside our dedicated pre-sale vehicle prep service for more thorough needs.
- How long does a full auto detailing session take?
- Usually half a day, depending on the vehicle's condition and added options like paint correction.
- How do I know if my vehicle also needs paint correction?
- An in-studio assessment under dedicated lighting reveals micro-scratches and haze visible in sunlight, and helps recommend the right combination of services.
