How long to keep your car protected between detailing appointments

The ideal frequency depends on the service, how you use the vehicle and the seasons. Here is a realistic schedule to keep a car clean and protected without overdoing it.

Exterior hand wash

In winter, a wash every two weeks removes salt and calcium before they attack the paint. In summer, monthly washing is usually enough unless the vehicle is exposed to tree sap, insects or bird droppings.

Interior cleaning

A full interior cleaning is recommended at the change of seasons: spring, after winter, and fall, before winter. In between, a simple vacuum and wipe-down is enough for most drivers.

Polishing and paint correction

Polishing is not regular maintenance. It targets a specific problem: oxidation, micro-scratches or loss of gloss. Once the paint is corrected and protected with ceramic, polishing is rarely needed for several years.

Ceramic coating

3-year ceramic is renewed roughly every 3 years, 5-year ceramic every 5 years. An annual inspection checks that the protection is intact, especially after a harsh winter.

Liquid PPF

Liquid PPF, applied to front-facing areas, can last several years depending on gravel exposure. It is inspected during the annual maintenance and reapplied locally if a zone is worn.

The right schedule for you

Rather than a rigid package, adapt the schedule to your usage. City car kept in a garage: wash every 2 weeks, interior cleaning each season, ceramic every 3 to 5 years. Highway vehicle or parked outside: increase wash frequency and inspect protection yearly.
