How long does ceramic coating last?

The advertised lifespan of a ceramic coating varies a lot from shop to shop. In reality, durability depends on three things: the product, the preparation and the maintenance.

What ceramic coating covers

A ceramic coating is chemical protection. It protects against contaminants, road residue, UV rays and makes cleaning much easier. It does not prevent rock chips or deep scratches.

3 years or 5 years: what is the difference?

• 3 years (from $895): excellent value for normal urban use
• 5 years (from $1,095): more durable layer, suited to vehicles kept long-term or heavily exposed

Preparation is half the job

A ceramic coating applied over poorly prepared paint seals defects underneath. That is why decontamination and often polishing are needed before application. Without this step, both gloss and durability are reduced.

Maintenance that extends protection

• Hand wash, no automatic brushes
• Avoid aggressive degreasing soaps
• Remove bird droppings, sap and insects quickly
• Have the protection inspected once a year
