Detailing an electric car: what really changes

Electric cars are more and more common on the South Shore. Their cosmetic care is similar to a gas vehicle's, but some details need extra attention. Here's what to know.

Paint worth protecting early

Many owners notice that their new vehicle's paint marks easily: micro-scratches and chips on the hood and bumper. Hardness varies by manufacturer and model, which is why an evaluation matters. On a new vehicle, protecting in the first weeks avoids having to correct later.

  • Liquid PPF on exposed areas: hood, bumpers, mirrors, rocker panels (on evaluation)
  • Ceramic coating on the whole vehicle: 1 year from $295, 3 years from $895 or 5 years from $1,095, before taxes

Exterior washing

Hand washing suits electric vehicles very well. We pay particular attention to sensors and cameras, the charging port and the glass roof, which quickly shows water spots. The underbody, which houses the battery, also deserves a good rinse in winter to remove salt.

The interior: screens, faux leather and gloss surfaces

Electric cabins often have large touchscreens, light faux leather and glossy black surfaces that mark easily. They're cleaned with gentle products and clean microfibres, never abrasive cleaners. Interior cleaning starts at $100 before taxes, and an interior-exterior package takes about 1 to 2 hours, from $200.

What about range?

A clean, protected body won't noticeably increase your range. The value of protection is mainly preserving the vehicle's appearance and resale value.

To sum up

An electric car is washed by hand, protected early and cleaned inside with gentle products. Book an evaluation at the Chic Lave-Auto Écologique studio in Quartier DIX30, Brossard.
