Cleaning a vehicle after damage (sand, salt, animals): what can be recovered

Interior damage can happen fast: sand after a beach day, melted salt in winter, pet urine on the seat or a spilled drink. The good news is that many situations are recoverable if addressed quickly with the right method.

Sand: recoverable in most cases

Sand gets everywhere: carpets, seat seams, trunk, door jambs. A household vacuum is not enough. Professional interior cleaning with high-power suction, brushes and blow-out removes almost all sand.

Salt: recoverable if treated in time

White marks on mats are salt crystals. If left, they attack fibres and the floor pan. Hot-water extraction dissolves salt and removes it at the same time. The longer you wait, the more fibres are damaged, but cleaning remains effective in most cases.

Pet odours: depends on depth

A fresh stain on fabric is often recoverable with extraction. If urine has reached the foam or floor pan, treatment is more complex but possible in many cases. If the odour persists after professional cleaning, the seat foam may need replacement.

Liquid spills

Milk, coffee, sugary drinks: the sweeter or greasier the liquid, the more it attracts dirt and the worse it smells over time. Fast cleaning with extraction is the best defence against permanent odours.

When it is too late

If the metal floor has started to rust from salt, if foam is completely saturated for months, or if leather is cracked, cleaning is no longer enough. An evaluation determines what is recoverable and what must be replaced.
