Car wash vs. auto detailing: what’s the difference?

Car wash, auto detailing and car detailing are often used as if they meant the same thing. In practice, they describe different levels of work. The right choice depends on the vehicle’s condition and the result you want.
A car wash: getting the vehicle clean again
Interior or exterior washing removes everyday dirt. Exterior service focuses on the body and a careful finish. Interior service generally includes vacuuming, dust removal and cleaning accessible surfaces.
This is usually the right choice for a regularly maintained vehicle with no specific issue to correct.
Auto detailing: going further
Auto detailing adds targeted work. Depending on the vehicle, that may include stain treatment, extraction, decontamination, polishing, paint correction or protective coatings.
Detailing may be useful when:
- the cabin has stains or odours
- the paint has lost gloss
- light paint defects are visible
- the vehicle needs preparation before ceramic coating
- you are preparing a vehicle for sale or lease return
Why an evaluation may be needed
Two vehicles of the same model can require very different amounts of work. Salt, pet hair, spills, oxidation and paint defects affect the method, time and price. An evaluation avoids selling a package that does not match the real need.
Which service should you choose at DIX30?
For regular maintenance, interior, exterior or combined washing is often enough. For a specific correction or paint protection, more complete detailing is usually better. Chic Lave-Auto is located at level SS2-A in the underground parking at Le Square DIX30 in Brossard and works by appointment.
