Car odours: what an interior cleaning can do

carl785 · Oct 9, 2026 · 5 min read

A bad smell in a car almost always comes from a specific source: residue embedded in fabrics, mats or crevices. Covering it with air freshener fixes nothing. The first step is finding and removing the source.

The most common causes

  • Pet hair and saliva in the seats and trunk
  • Spilled food or drinks, especially milk and coffee
  • Damp mats after winter or a water leak
  • Child seats and crumbs built up in the seat rails

What an interior cleaning does

A professional interior cleaning includes deep vacuuming, surface cleaning and shampoo or extraction of fabrics and mats where needed. Removing the residue often reduces the odour significantly.

The limits, honestly

Some odours are deeply embedded, such as old cigarette smoke or liquid that has soaked into seat foam or under the carpet. In those cases, cleaning generally improves things, but we can't guarantee the odour will be completely eliminated. An on-site evaluation lets us tell you in advance what's realistic.

Keeping odours from coming back

  • Wipe up liquid spills quickly
  • Use a seat cover or blanket for pets
  • Let wet mats dry out in winter
  • Schedule an interior cleaning in spring and fall

Price and time

Interior cleaning starts at $100 before taxes. The interior-exterior package starts at $200 and takes about 1 to 2 hours depending on the vehicle's condition. No extra charge is added without your approval. Chic Lave-Auto Écologique welcomes you by appointment in Quartier DIX30, Brossard.
