Auto detailing before winter in Quebec: the ideal timing

carl785 · Aug 31, 2026 · 4 min read

Quebec winter is the harshest season for a car. Salt, calcium and abrasive sand attack the paint, seals, rocker panels and interior. When you prepare your vehicle matters almost as much as the protection you choose.

The ideal timing

  • September-October: paint and interior evaluation
  • October-November: decontamination, light polishing and ceramic coating application
  • November-December: liquid PPF on front-facing areas if needed
  • January-March: regular washes, including the underbody
  • April: deep clean to remove accumulated salt

Why before the first salting

Applying ceramic or liquid PPF after the paint has already been exposed to salt requires much more thorough decontamination. Acting before the first salting seals a clean surface, maximizing protection durability.

Which services to prioritize

For winter, the most requested services are full interior cleaning, 3-year or 5-year ceramic coating and liquid PPF on the hood, bumpers and mirrors. See /en/winter-vehicle-protection for our approach.

The interior deserves attention too

Mats and sills accumulate melting salt that attacks fibres and the floor pan. A vacuum is not enough: extraction is needed to dissolve and remove residue. That's why an interior clean before winter, followed by another in spring, is the best rhythm.

Book early

Serious shops often fill up in October and November. Booking early guarantees a slot before the first storms. Chic Lave-Auto serves clients by appointment at DIX30 in Brossard for all winter preparation services.
